Creating a Point Cloud for Autocad and Revit 2013 from FARO Scans
The Autodesk newsletter explains how to import laser scans into Autocad and Revit2013.
You, too, can plan directly in the 3D model with the point cloud! Please note: the link is no longer valid.
This is how you create the point cloud in pcg format for the Autocad product family and Revit 2013:
In the Autocad menu under Insert: Create point cloud/ select FARO workspace file (*.fws)/ Attach. Please be patient, as this can take a few hours for larger projects. If Autocad aborts, load the registered individual scans *.fls instead of *.fws and have a single point cloud calculated. If the generated pcg file is larger than approx. 8-10 GB, thin out the FARO scans in Scene beforehand – how to do this is explained in the Scene help.
PLEASE NOTE: If you are working with the current FARO Scene 5.1, this creation only succeeds after the following process: install the sdk files of FARO Scene in 32 bit and 64 bit on your system. Now copy all files in the folder c:\Windows\winsxs\amd64_faro.ls_1d23f5635ba800ab_1.1.501.1_none_347f8945032e70df
into the Autocad folder C:\Programme\Autodesk\Autocad 2013\IndexCodecs.
Autocad will now no longer abort the process and you can work successfully with the laser scan data. I wish you every success!
