3D SCANS FOR SHELL CONSTRUCTION CONTROL

Have the design specifications for the new building been implemented precisely? Before the fit-out phase begins, the building shell should be checked with a 3D survey. That way you know in good time whether construction is dimensionally accurate and all design specifications have been correctly met.

Checking the shell against the BIM model

The point cloud of the shell construction phase produced during scanning can be displayed in the CAD program overlaid on the 3D design, enabling a quick visual check of the work carried out. Are all walls in the right place and the floor slabs at the correct height? 3D scans give you the answer. Fast, comprehensive and reliable.

Detecting construction defects in detail

The scan data is so detailed that the position of downstand beams, openings and door heights can be checked. Even any inclination of walls or the flatness of slabs is detected in the 3D scan. Construction defects are thus noticed before follow-on trades install further components and the shell is no longer visible.

3D scan after strip-out when building in existing structures

When an existing building is converted, the right time for the 3D survey is after the strip-out. By then everything superfluous has been removed and the structural elements are visible. This “bare-bones” structure is, after all, the basis for the redesign. The survey carried out at this point gives you solid and reliable planning data for a successful conversion without nasty surprises.

Among other things, the 3D survey gives you control over the following aspects

  • Exact position of walls, including any inclination
  • Exact position of floor slabs, including flatness
  • Length, width and height of door and window openings
  • Position and size of wall and floor openings
  • Distance to boundaries
