Laser scanning and 3D modelling with BIM

Point clouds can usually be imported directly into current CAD and BIM software to create 3D models.

We offer you the complete solution, from the building survey and scan data handover through to the 3D BIM model. In their current versions, all Autodesk Design Suites based on Autocad, as well as Revit, Inventor, 3DS Max and Navisworks, can import, display and analyse 3D scans.

Since the 2014 versions, ReCap has been included as a fantastic point cloud engine. Other CAD software products such as Bentley Microstation, Archicad and Vectorworks can now also process laser scan data.

By simply tracing over the point cloud with intelligent components such as walls and slabs, you create a precise building model containing all the relevant information for the Building Information Modeling process.

The procedure is as simple as inserting 2D images in CAD, which you will be used to. As a planner, you can easily carry out this step yourself.

LSA can also create the 3D building model for you. You will then receive a fixed-price quotation from us for the finished 3D model in Autocad Architecture, Revit Architecture + MEP or Inventor. Via the IFC interface, Archicad, Allplan and other programs are also suitable for this approach.

Revit Architecture:

All the information in the three-dimensional CAD model is stored in a single project file. Any floor plans or elevations can therefore be displayed on the desktop at the same time.

Building design with Building Information Modeling – a single project file for the complete 3D building model:

  • from the preliminary design with solids, through the planning application, to the 2D detail drawing in the construction phase
  • A shared, integrated data basis for everyone involved in design, structural engineering, building services, construction and operation
  • Eliminating redundant data and error-prone change processes ensures a high level of planning certainty
  • intelligent, parametric component objects with any database attributes such as quantities, costs, times or material assignments

In October 2017, the Chamber of Architects published a new BIM guideline on the scope and remuneration of architectural services. Many architects complain that BIM involves considerable additional work, particularly in the early work stages. This is something that has to be addressed. We believe that, as part of the digitalisation of all areas of society, the 3D data model with BIM is unstoppable and will fundamentally change the planning and construction process. Let us look forward to the benefits of this technology: data transparency, cost savings and error avoidance – to name but a few.
