3D building surveying is the most modern, fastest and at the same time most accurate method of architectural surveying. 3D laser scanning can be used from the planning phase right through to recording the newly created building stock. There, this technology eliminates the disadvantages that have to be accepted with two-dimensional recording and documentation. With photogrammetry and laser-based surveying, architects also receive support in visualising the buildings they have designed within the existing surroundings.

Which lasers are used for 3D laser scanning in Hamburg?
If a facade survey of a smaller building is to be carried out as part of architectural surveying, the particularly fast lasers that use the phase comparison method can be employed. For 3D laser scanning in Hamburg, they cover distances of up to fifty metres. For the building survey of a larger building and for boundary surveys, we use the pulse measurement method. These laser scanners have a range of up to one kilometre and are therefore also used for terrain surveys. Both variants produce a point cloud from which special CAD programs derive the surfaces for modelling.
The two approaches to 3D laser scanning in Hamburg also differ in this respect. The pulse measurement method can generate up to 10,000 measuring points per second. The phase comparison method delivers up to half a million measuring points per second. This alone shows that 3D building surveying with a laser is clearly superior to all other measuring methods in terms of working speed. Added to this is the almost incredible precision. Even at the maximum distance of the pulse measurement method, deviations amount to only a few millimetres.

Practical applications for photogrammetry and laser scanners
Many surveys have to be carried out as part of risk management. When assessing the safety of dams and bridges, for example, the provision of real-time data is crucial. We can help with this through 3D laser scanning in Hamburg. The laser scanners and the cameras used for photogrammetry can be coupled with drones in no time at all. In this way, information on deformations of bridge support elements or dams is available within a short time. This is exactly what matters when human lives have to be protected through timely closures and evacuations.
Would you like to determine the flood risk for a building yet to be constructed? Here, too, we offer useful support with 3D laser scanning and the visualisations derived from it. In addition to flying over smaller areas for architectural and boundary surveying, we also offer overflights of entire districts and the surrounding area. From this terrestrial survey, modelling with CAD programs gives you an accurate overview of which areas are at risk at which flood levels.
The data obtained in this way on surface structures and existing buildings is also very useful when planning the locations of solar installations. 3D laser scanning captures all solid objects.
This means that trees are also recognisable in the generated point cloud. True-to-scale visualisation on a map also makes it possible to derive the shadows cast by larger buildings.
Architectural surveying and terrain scanning therefore allow conclusions to be drawn about the achievable efficiency of a solar installation as early as the planning phase.
